Many americans without health insurance 2019: State Officials Ponder Proposals That Reduce Access To Dental Care, Increase Costs


What’s good news for patients and consumers is bad news for some industry actors who don’t like competition. Rather than become more efficient or invest in new technology that improves quality of care and patient experience, some dental practices instead seek to have politicians and bureaucrats inappropriately crack down on competition. In Maryland, for example, lawmakers and regulators, at the urging of lobbyists for the Maryland State Dental Association, have spent the past half-decade going after DSOs with proposed legislation and regulation that would either make DSOs less competitive or prohibit dentists from contracting with them. Though all of these proposals have failed thus far, the MSDA’s misguided crusade against DSOs is expected to continue into 2019.
